Cómo aumentar la velocidad de conexión de un módem 3G de Telcel

Si tienes un módem 3G de Telcel y hasta de Claro y Movistar en otros paises es posible acelerar un poco más la conexión a internet, aunque en esencia se trata de un procedimiento para optimizar la conexión y transferencia de datos más que un aumento de velocidad, esto se debe a que muchas veces no aprovechamos al 100% la velocidad que tenemos disponible porque el sistema reserva una parte de esta velocidad para otros recursos.

Este procedimiento lo hice para tratar de aumentar la velocidad de conexión del módem 3G de Telcel de un amigo y al no encontrar en Internet algún tutorial tuve que experimentar modificando algunas cosas, por lo que si ves que algo no está correcto me lo comentas y lo corrijo o agrego.

Antes de comenzar debes considerar que muchas veces el módem 3G está está lento porque te encuentras fuera de un área con cobertura de red 3G, cómo en mi caso en la Ciudad de Guanajuato no tenemos cobertura en la mayor parte de la ciudad, y cuando no lo tienes el módem se conecta por medio de EDGE que es una evolución de los sistemas de telefonía móvil GSM (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), y cuando estás conectado por EDGE la velocidad máxima que he alcanzado es de 350 kbps por lo que tal vez tu solución para aumentar la velocidad sea moverte a una zona de cobertura 3G. Esto creo que funcionará igual para un módem USB, módem PCMCIA o módem Express Card, en mi caso lo hice con uno de marca Huawei E226 pero creo que para la marca ZTE y Sony Ericsson también es igual.
Los pasos para acelarar la velocidad de un módem de datos 3G son los siguientes:

1. Conecta tu tarjeta de datos 3G a tu computadora pero no lo conectes a Internet porque primero vamos a configurar
2. En el software de conexión ve al menú Herramientas y luego a Opciones.
3. En opciones cambia el tipo de red y selecciona “Sólo WCDMA” y en banda selecciona “Todas las bandas” y da click en aceptar.
4. Ahora cierra el programa y desconecta el módem de tu computadora.
5. Vuelve a conectar el módem a tu computadora y ahora sí conéctate a Internet y notarás cómo la velocidad ha aumentado hasta el doble.

Además de todo esto puede probar alguno de los trucos para acelerar Firefox con estos trucos y así aumentar el rendimiento de tu conexión.

Unboxing the Nokia 7705 (Twist)

What? Another CDMA phone from Nokia? Madness!

Behold the Nokia 7705 (Twist), a feature phone with a QWERTY keyboard and an ultra cool swivel form factor that's exclusive to the US market (Verizon).

Like the Nokia 6790 (Surge), it's primarily a messaging device. Contrary to the Surge, it's not running Symbian, which is FoF (*).

Sure, there's 3G (EVDO), a 3 megapixel camera (with auto-focus, flash, and QVGA video recording), GPS, and a 2.4" QVGA display.

But unfortunately, WiFi is missing, the audio connector is of the 2.5 mm variety, the battery is only 860 mAh, and there's no Java support, which is again FoF (*).

Tim Tyler: My camcorder - Veho Kuzo HD review

A brief review of my Veho Kuzo HD camcorder. Not too bad!

Microphone performance is poor. Low light performance is not great. Still-photo performance leaves quite a bit to be desired. The sofware seems primitive - with relatively few options. However, the camcorder is inexpensive, has good optics, reasonable autofocus, good resolution - so it might well become a popular device.

Notes: I claim in the video there is only 5x optical zoom. That is true for the 1080P mode. However at other resolutions there is indeed additional 4x digital zoom - as claimed. Also, I note that - at the time on writing - Pinnacle VideoSpin is unable to read the camcorder's AVI files - not a great sign. YouTube can digest them, though.

Using Tablet Function with eComStation in Virtualbox / Vista

This video shows (Deutsch weiter unten) eComStation 2.0RC 7 running inside Virtualbox in Windows VISTA Business using the Tablet PC Digitizer. Hardware is the Lenovo X200T 7450-86G Tablet PC with 4 GB RAM and 500 GB HDD. I guess this will work for other Operating Systems (Like i.e. Linux) as well but I did not test. Next step will be to install eComstation native and see if it works. Hope you enjoy

Windows 7, el nuevo sistema operativo de Microsoft, se comercializará en otoño, por lo que muchos usuarios esperarán a comprar un PC con el fin de evitar las obligatorias actualizaciones

El próximo 22 de octubre Microsoft lanzará al mercado Windows 7. A partir de ese día, todos los PC que se comercialicen llevarán instalado este sistema operativo, con un mayor número de prestaciones que el actual Windows Vista. Las personas interesadas en comprar un ordenador antes de esa fecha se verán forzadas a actualizarlo si quieren disfrutar de un aparato en condiciones óptimas. Esto supondrá un gasto extra y una cierta habilidad para su instalación. Prorrogar la compra del ordenador hasta la salida de Windows 7 puede ser para muchas personas la solución más sencilla. Para quienes no puedan esperar, se facilitan una serie de recomendaciones sobre la configuración, procesador y capacidad de disco duro.

A pesar de la inminente aparición de Windows 7, la nueva versión del sistema operativo de Microsoft, muchos usuarios han adquirido en fechas recientes un ordenador o piensan hacerlo, obligados por diversas circunstancias como el comienzo del curso escolar. Esta época es, junto con la campaña de Navidad, el momento del año en el que mayor número de computadoras se venden. ¿Qué hacer, por lo tanto, si no se puede esperar a la salida de Windows 7?

Si se adquiere un ordenador en los próximos días, es necesario seguir algunas pautas imprescindibles para actualizar más adelante el aparato. En primer lugar, hay que confirmar que la configuración de hardware (las partes del ordenador y los componentes periféricos que se vayan a utilizar con él) sea compatible con los requerimientos de instalación del nuevo sistema. Windows 7 exige, como mínimo, un procesador de 32 ó 64 bits, con un gigaherzio de frecuencia.

Además, deberá tener un gigabyte de memoria RAM para la versión de 32 bits, o dos gigabytes para la modalidad de 64 bits. En cuanto al disco duro, deberá contar con una capacidad de almacenamiento de entre 16 y 20 gigabytes, como mínimo, según la versión (32 ó 64 bits).

El antecedente de Mac OS

Los ordenadores de la marca Apple ya han planteado una situación similar. El sistema operativo se ha actualizado hace escasos días y los usuarios que adquirieron un Macbook (portátil) o un iMac (sobremesa) antes del 28 de agosto se encuentran ahora con que sus ordenadores están desfasados. La actualización se puede adquirir en cualquier tienda de informática, pero a un precio que ronda los 30 euros.

Es un DVD que se inserta en el ordenador y actualiza de modo automático el sistema operativo, si bien algunos programas externos pueden quedar desfasados y exigir la búsqueda en la página web del desarrollador de una versión adaptada al nuevo sistema operativo.

Por otro lado, para los ordenadores adquiridos después del 8 de junio de 2009 (dos meses antes del lanzamiento de la nueva versión) se dispone de un precio especial de actualización, en torno a los 9 euros. Para optar a este descuento hay que enviar una carta a la dirección de la central en Londres, junto con el recibo y otros documentos. El envío se deberá realizar en los 90 días siguientes a la fecha de compra o antes del 26 de diciembre de 2009.

De esta manera, se conseguirá pasar del antiguo sistema Mac OS "Leopard" al nuevo Mac OS "Snow Leopard". Esta operación será válida para los usuarios que tengan instalada en sus ordenadores la versión anterior, 10.5 "Leopard", o la 10.4, conocida como "Tiger". Los requerimientos mínimos de hardware para la actualización son: un ordenador Mac con procesador Intel, un gigabyte de Memoria RAM y cinco gigabytes de espacio en el disco duro.

Cuidado con las versiones anteriores

En el caso de Windows 7, el ordenador podrá actualizarse desde Windows XP, pero también desde las diferentes versiones de Windows Vista. Sin embargo, en función de la edición instalada y la elegida para actualizar a Windows 7, habrá que realizar una "instalación limpia": se tendrá que actualizar desde cero y copiar todos los datos del disco duro, ya que se perderán durante el proceso.

Para los usuarios con Windows Vista Home a 32 bits que quieran pasar a Windows 7 Home 32 bits o a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits, será suficiente una actualización del sistema anterior. Para Windows 7 Profesional 32 bits hará falta de nuevo una "instalación limpia". Coste de los nuevos Sistemas Operativos

El listado de precios de venta anticipada a través de la tienda de Microsoft oscila entre los 199 euros por la versión Windows 7 Home Premium, y los 319 euros por Windows 7 Ultimate.

Precio para equipos adquiridos en los últimos meses

Microsoft recomienda informarse antes de comprar un equipo informático con el distribuidor minorista o con el fabricante. Es un modo de confirmar que está incluido en el programa de actualización de Windows 7 para equipos comprados entre el 26 de junio de 2009 y el 31 de enero de 2010, y que el Windows Vista esté preinstalado. En principio, está actualización será gratuita, aunque algunos fabricantes pueden incluir gastos asociados, como el embalaje y el transporte.

Que necesidad tiene un usuario casero de todo esto pudiendo usar GNU/Linux y dejar de preocuparse y estresarse de todo esto?

En la acutalidad GNU/Linux en sus diversas distribuciones trae todo lo que el usuario promedio necesita, ofimatica, navegador de internet, mensajeria instantanea y muchas cosas mas y todo esto sin pagar un décimo por concepto de licencias.

Hay que evaluar la situación, ¿Tus necesidades laborales exigen paquetería que solo funciona con Sistemas como Win o Mac? o ¿La paqueteria libre me permite realizar todas mis tareas sin problema?

Piensen y se darán cuenta que no hay necesidad de tener un sistema operativo con licencia vencida y el temor de que en cualquier momento no puedan acceder a sus archivos mas preciados hasta que actualizen su sistema operativo y paguen la licencia nueva....
